The Dummies Guide to Local Cable Production

LOGLINE

    Why do those crazy cable commercials look the way they do? Find
    out as you learn cable production 101 through the eyes of this
    uhmmm… crack crew of professionals. 

     

    
SUMMARY

    This unorthodox project has been compared to the likes of
    "The Office" and "Scrubs." We like to call
    it "Welcome to Our Daily Grind." This might seem like
    an insider's point of view... Well it is! But we believe that
    the viewers will enjoy how we bring them into what happens on
    the inside of a big bad cable company.

    Centering around a group of Production Personnel (Douglas,
    Brandi, and Denver), and an intern (BJ) who was unfortunate enough
    to land the gig at Transworld Cable. Through the characters and
    the people they work with from their boss, who is different on
    every episode (revolving door), to the eclectic array of Account
    Executives (Rick, Serenity, and Stan), and other front office
    support team (Cameron and Pablo), as well as the whacked out
    clients that want the commercials done for their local business.

    Every episode centers around a client, the Account Executive,
    and how that spot is produced, shot, and edited. With the final
    result shown during the ending credits.

BJ (Brazelton Jasper)

GENDER: Male. AGE: Early-Mid 20's ETHNICITY: OPEN

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Cautious. He has no clue about Video Production, the equipment used, or production terminalogy. He's an intern who needed the credits to graduate, but waited until the last moment, so he got stuck with anything that was available at the time. This internship is definitely not one in his major, which just happens to be Accounting. Must be able to scream like a girl.

GENDER: Male. AGE: Mid-Late 30's. Pushing 40 ETHNICITY: OPEN

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Sarcastic. Think Chevy Chase and David Spade toned down a bit. He has been working at the cable company for 15-20 years and has no fear of being canned, since he knows all of the loopholes and how to get away with stuff. He's a brilliant idea man.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: She's a bit of a skeptic. Okay she's a huge skeptic, women's libber, and conspiracy theorist. A very take control always has to be right type of person. She changes her mood a lot, which means her wardrobe as well. The person playing this part must be willing to take on various hairstyles, including dying her hair in outrageous colors (goth and punk specifically).

SHORT DESCRIPTION: A video editing wiz. Knowledge of video editing gear and techniques may help you better understand the character. He sleeps by day and edits at night. He's in the midst of a bad break up and she took everything, including his dog and extensive bobblehead collection he had since he was a kid. He only talks when wanting food, or when he's reminded of something from his past. Oh yeah, his editing techniques require some bizarre behaviour, so you must be willing to dress up in outrageous getups, or wear nothing at all.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Most be a HOT ex-Porn star type. She is the Area Sales Manager for the cable company and has a "thing" for Latin men. Must be comfortable with showing some skin (not fully nude, partially, like 3/4). She's a smart nymphomaniac.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: He's a young up and coming Account Executive with a slightly receding hairline. He's arrogant and cocky, an ex-jock type who gets chicks, but thinks he's more than he really is with the ladies. He leaves them slightly disappointed sexually, but he doesn't care, cause he got what he wanted and moves on to the next one.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: He's been an Account Executive for many years selling airtime, and now that he's nearing the end of his lustrous career, it's obvious because he doesn't have the swagger he had when he was young and winning awards for his brilliant selling tactics. Age and the advancement of technology (computers in general) has caught up to him and zipped by him. He's a bit forgetful now, but remembers all of his battles from the past vividly, or as vividly as he wants to remember them. In his prime he was suave (sort of like Rick), but he has totally mellowed since his hay day as the hot shot Account Executive.

SERENITY

GENDER: Female. AGE: Mid 30s-Mid 40s ETHNICITY: OPEN

SHORT DESCRIPTION: This frazzled Account Executive is unsure of herself and it shows. She is mentally all over the place, but at the same time, thinks she knows everything. Especially when it comes to producing and directing a commercial for her clients. She likes to take over and direct the spots herself, even though she is really causing havoc to her clients spot.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Has the looks of an ex-Latin Novella star, but puts on the accent because he knows what it does to Cameron, the Area Sales Manager. He's an awful secretary, unless his only requirement to get the job was filing a certain member into a particular filing cabinet. He spends most of his time at the counter tanning with his own personal tanning tray.

SHORT DESCRIPTION: A LARGE GUY who can sort of dance is needed for this part. Think Chris Farley in the Chippendale Dance Skit on Saturday Night Live. He must be willing to wear a tutu, perform Ballet, Break Danc, Tap, Ballroom Dancing, Salsa, Techno, and other forms of dance. Also, he must not be afraid to get wet.

INSTRUCTIONS

C47: The Dummies Guide to Local Cable Production is a Non-Union, no-budget sitcom pilot. We're looking for individuals available for a weekend or two in late July and early August willing to put some time into this crazy project. Of course, food, credit, and a copy of the finished product will be provided for your time and enthusiasm. There will be a read through session as well as a few rehearsals for blocking and character development purposes.

Auditions will be scheduled on a call back basis. Auditions will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2008. Time and location still to be determined, but it will be in the San Fernando Valley, and no… it's not a porno.
